Castle Club Press Statement on Chess Federation Barring Transgender Women
The following Castle Club press statement was issued today by Co-President Joe Casey (United States):
On Monday, the Switzerland based federation FIDE, published the following statement, “Transgender women cannot compete in its official events for women until its officials make an assessment of gender change.”
Castle Club understands that this statement concerns those entrants in tournament categories which have been long established. Those records assumed certain eligibilities and it is reasonable to presume they should continue to do so moving forward.
However, Castle Club does suggest an additional category be created, which would be all-inclusive. This way the current categories and record keeping can continue with no changes. Magnus Carlson, via teleconference, stated, “sign me up!”
